Elections are a fundamental part of democracy, and a stable democracy is fundamental to sustainable socio-economic growth and human development. But to truly contribute to a democratic culture, elections must be free and fair, accurately reflecting the will of the people and allowing them to vote in a secure environment. They should offer voters a clear choice in policies between different parties and be equally accessible to all segments of the population.

The Election Working Group works to promote democratization, good governance and citizen participation in Bangladesh by supporting free and fair elections. Through long term observation, Election Day monitoring, awareness campaigns and educational activities, it seeks to promote a peaceful and tolerant environment for the upcoming 2007 elections and beyond, and to foster a deeper culture of democratic representation and accountability in Bangladesh.
